Feb 2007 Letter in
Arbroath Herald from President
Dear Sir,
As president of Arbroath
Musical Society I would like to personally thank the people of Arbroath,
Carnoustie and neighbouring towns and villages for travelling to
Carnoustie High School last week to see the Melody Lingers On- our first
show in the theatre.
The Carnoustie people
made the Musical Society feel welcome and the support given from the
Arbroath people travelling to Carnoustie was very much appreciated.
We look forward to
seeing all of our audience, both newcomers and our loyal support at the
newly refurbished Webster Theatre, Arbroath in February where we will be
putting on Disney's High School Musical and again in June where we will be
staging Oklahoma.
Yours
faithfully,
Mrs Morna
Brown

Musical Critique in Arbroath Herald Feb 2007
Arbroath
Musical Society are celebrating the life and music of Irvin Berlin at
Carnoustie High School theatre, from Wednesday 6th to Saturday
10th February, in their production of The Melody Lingers On.
The performance can be characterised as enthusiastic and the audience were
quick to become part of the obvious fun the performers and musicians bring
to the stage. Leads, Jamie Watson and Eileen Mason play a convincing Mr
and Mrs Berlin as they tell the story of Berlin’s life to the audience,
confidently supported by the cast.
Many of
the familiar songs of the past (such as Alexander’s Ragtime Band, When The
Midnight Choo Choo Leaves For Alabam, Easter Parade, White Christmas,
There’s No Business Like Show Business and Puttin’ On The Ritz), were sung
in beautiful harmonies under the musical direction of Richard Allan,
production of James Hutchison and many pieces choreographed by Fiona
Retalic. With this being a Revue, the talents of the cast were shown with
many members singing solos or group pieces.
Although
this is the first time Arbroath Musical Society has performed in the
Carnoustie High School Theatre, their professional talents that they have
displayed in the Webster Theatre were easily transferred on to this stage.
